India's cybersecurity agency CERT-In has issued a high-risk alert for Google Chrome users on Windows and Mac. In its research, two very critical vulnerabilities were found which may allow hackers to break into the source of sensitive user data and compromise the device security.
These vulnerabilities have been identified as CIVN-2025-0007 and CIVN-2025-0008. These have been released for versions of Google Chrome before 132.0.6834.83/8r (for Windows and Mac) and before 132.0.6834.110/111 (for Windows, Mac, and Linux). CERT-In has requested all users to update their browsers immediately in order to avoid potential exploitation.
These vulnerabilities are serious. As CERT-In pointed out, hackers could take advantage of vulnerabilities in the browser to access unauthorized data and devices. The vulnerabilities come from a number of flaws in the browser, such as out-of-bounds memory access, an inappropriate implementation in some Chrome features such as fullscreen and payments, and insufficient data validation in extensions, which can cause a number of security breaches.
Google Chrome is the world's most used browser. Therefore, this message underlines how important it is to update the software regularly. The advisory issued by (Computer Emergency Response Team) CERT-In has indicated that the proper up-gradation of the browser on time is vital to maintaining the cybersecurity and protection against ever-changing threats.
The cybersecurity watchdog said that, although most smartphone users are relatively safe, PC and laptop users should do something now to protect their equipment. Failure to update to the latest version might leave users vulnerable to malware attacks, including theft of data and access to devices without authorization.
Cybersecurity experts suggest users to have automatic updates in order not to miss the important patches, hence the protection of the devices against the vulnerability. In today's hyperconnected world, a simple measure that would be of prevention from cyber threats is keeping personal data updated.
