BSNL has launched a satellite phone, marking the company's first formal step in phone production. The phone is designed for people who travel or work in locations without mobile networks. It has a large battery that can run for days on a single charge.

The BSNL phone connects to the satellite directly for making calls, unlike ordinary phones, which connect through telecommunications towers. It will be used by the emergency services, military, and any business establishments in places where one may not be able to connect easily.

BSNL Satellite Phone: Key Features

The BSNL satellite phone is an Inmarsat-based device developed for mission-critical communication. Its biggest feature is satellite connectivity, enabling users to make voice calls from remote locations where conventional mobile networks are unavailable. The handset also comes equipped with an SOS emergency support feature for use during critical situations.

According to BSNL, the phone has a rugged build designed to withstand demanding working environments. It also offers long battery life to support users operating in harsh conditions.

As the device connects directly to satellites instead of telecom towers, it allows voice communication even in areas with no cellular network coverage.

Who is the BSNL Satellite Phone Meant for?

This satellite phone is not a mass-market device, and BSNL will not be selling it through regular retail stores. It is meant for specialised users such as defence personnel, maritime teams, disaster response workers, mining operations, remote industrial sites, and adventure tourism operators.

The idea is simple: these groups often work in places where normal mobile networks don’t reach, so satellite connectivity helps keep communication going without interruptions.

BSNL Satellite Phone: Price and Availability

The brand-new satellite phone from BSNL debuted in India for an astounding Rs. 1,34,166. It is not a regular consumer product, meaning it’s not available at any smartphone store or online store. Anyone who wants to purchase this phone needs to contact BSNL and get permission. BSNL makes it a little selective when it comes to this process.

According to BSNL, they gather information like the location where the phone will be used, the time period for which it will be used, and the purpose of purchasing the handset.

If someone wants to know whether they qualify, the safest move is to speak to the nearest BSNL office first. BSNL has also shared the number, 9768866652, for more information about the device and buying process.
