Apple is accelerating its transition toward proprietary components to reduce dependence on third-party suppliers and gain greater control over its products. The code linked to Apple’s internal testing suggests that iPhone 17e is making its debut with a homegrown cellular modem.
At the same time, there is uncertainty over the choices of modems in the upcoming Pro models, indicating that Apple is still working on fine-tuning its long-term approach to wireless.
The newest information comes from leaked internal macOS system files that were briefly available before going off the network. The code includes mentions of unannounced iPhone hardware, including which internal parts Apple is testing for the devices.
These files hint that iPhone 17e is paired with Apple’s C1-series cellular modem, making it one of the first iPhones to utilize an entirely Apple-designed solution for mobile connectivity.
The move, if confirmed, would mark the latest milestone in Apple’s attempt to cut reliance on third-party chipmakers, especially in sensitive segments like wireless communication.
Interestingly, the leaked references hint at the fact that Apple iPhone 17e might not include the company’s N1 wireless chip, required for supporting certain short-range networking features. This suggests its exclusion translates to limited connectivity options when compared to higher-end units and that 17e is a budget offering.
The code also mentions support for either the C1 or the enhanced C1X modem. Other reports indicate that Apple is more likely to choose C1X for a better chip than the one in iPhone 16e. This also hints at incremental improvements, even among Apple’s lower-end designs.

Apple’s plans for iPhone 18 Pro are still a work in progress. Internal references to both C1X and a next-gen C2 modem imply a lack of final decision. The Pro models are on track to retain the N1 wireless chip while offering all their usual connectivity features.
iPhone 17e may launch by the first half of 2026, around May, at approximately Rs. 60,000. iPhone 18 Pro, on the other hand, is set to arrive in September 2026 with an expected price close to Rs. 1,54,900.
