Google started rolling out Android Tap to Share for Pixel 6 and newer devices on August 12, 2026. The Quick Share update lets compatible Android phones exchange contacts, photos, videos, links, and more by bringing devices together.

Google designed the feature to make nearby sharing faster by reducing the need to select devices manually.

The company announced the feature through its Android blog and said, “sharing between Android devices is even simpler, starting with Pixel.” The rollout currently targets Pixel devices running Android 17, while Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 support will arrive soon. Google plans wider Android support before the end of 2026.

Tap to Share works through the existing Quick Share system and uses NFC to detect nearby compatible phones. Both devices need unlocked screens with the displays facing upward during the connection process. A glow animation appears when the phones recognize each other and activate the sharing process.

Contact sharing works directly from the home screen, allowing both devices to exchange selected contact details. Photos, videos, locations, and other files require the Android Share Sheet before users bring the phones together. The process removes several steps from the usual Quick Share workflow.

Google enables Tap to Share by default on supported devices, except devices with managed accounts. The option can also be disabled through Quick Share settings when needed. Pixel devices with Work profile apps cannot use the feature.

The update gives Android a simpler alternative to traditional nearby sharing and moves Quick Share closer to Apple's AirDrop experience. Wider Android support could make the feature more useful across different phone brands later this year.
