India has entered the Guinness World Records after 2,50,946 people signed an artificial intelligence responsibility pledge within 24 hours, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.
Guinness adjudicators verified the title, most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The IndiaAI Mission organized the campaign with Intel India between 16 and 17 February 2026. Citizens signed the pledge on a dedicated portal, committing to use AI ethically and responsibly.
Participants had to answer scenario-based questions on data privacy, transparency, accountability, and misinformation. Those who completed the module received a digital badge and access to curated AI learning pathways, turning the campaign into a public awareness and training program. Officials said they had set a target of 5,000 pledges but crossed 2.5 lakh within a day. They said the response showed growing public engagement with AI governance.
Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to involve students and young innovators in emerging technologies. “We reached out to colleges and faculty across the country and encouraged students to see AI as a force for social good while remaining aware of its risks,” he said.
Calling it a proud moment for the nation, the minister said the scale of participation reflected a citizen-led shift toward digital responsibility and trust.
