Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has secured a major Adani Ports Argentina LNG contract worth $70 million for ten years, marking its entry into South America’s energy logistics market. The deal strengthens the company’s global expansion strategy while opening a new energy corridor between Argentina and India.
The contract came through a global tender issued by Southern Energy S.A., which leads Argentina’s first LNG export project. Adani Harbour International FZCO, a step-down subsidiary, partnered with Meridian Group to win the project. The partnership operates through Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A., where Adani holds a majority 51% stake.
The agreement covers complete marine services for LNG carriers operating at the project site. Services include tugboat operations, offshore logistics, and crew transfers, ensuring smooth LNG export operations. The consortium will deploy four advanced tugboats, one anchor handling vessel, and one crew boat to support daily activities.
The LNG export project sits in the San Matías Gulf in Río Negro Province and represents Argentina’s first operational LNG export facility. The project uses the floating LNG vessel Hilli Episeyo to process natural gas sourced from domestic pipelines. Phase one targets annual production of 2.45 million tonnes, with around 28 cargo shipments planned each year.
Commercial operations will begin in September 2027, aligning with Argentina’s broader strategy to expand LNG exports globally. The country has already signed agreements to supply up to 10 million tonnes of LNG annually to India, strengthening long-term energy cooperation.
This Adani Ports Argentina LNG contract adds a new dimension to the company’s global expansion strategy. The company already operates marine services across 12 countries and manages a fleet of over 130 vessels. International operations span regions such as Australia, Israel, and Africa, supporting ports, LNG terminals, and offshore projects.
The move into Latin America reflects rising demand for energy logistics as new LNG export hubs emerge worldwide. Argentina’s vast shale reserves, especially in Vaca Muerta, position the country as a future LNG export leader.
