So, FromSoftware’s upcoming title, Elden Ring: Nightreign, despite not being related to the original game, has created a huge curiosity among fans.
It’s not even a month before Elden Ring Nightreign will be released. Officially, this Elden Ring spin-off is scheduled to be launched on May 30, 2025. This game has generated a significant buzz , especially among the fans of the Dark Souls series.
This rogue-like co-op game not only brings new gameplay, but also it is set to pay tribute to its Dark Souls predecessors through in-game outfits and boss encounters.
Nightreign promises to bring attractive twists to the Elden Ring universe. Though FromSoftware usually claims that it is committed to single-player titles, Nightreign is a multiplayer co-op title based on a parallel Limgrave, named the land of Limveld.
While the gameplay will primarily focus on players surviving three nights in the brutal world by fighting formidable foes and world bosses, the character customization option has attracted the attention of Elden Ring and Dark Souls fans alike.
In a latest video, FromSoftware has revealed players will be able to dress themselves in the costumes of fan-favorite Dark Souls series characters. The overview trailer has shown that in Nightreign, players will be able to dress up like some iconic Dark Souls NPCs, and they can purchase these costumes from the in-game store.
The most notable entries include Solaire of Astora's armor, which allows players to wear a regal version of the sun knight's iconic gear. Aside from that, other Dark Souls outfits that are making their way to Nightreign are Ringfinger Leonhard’s armor (Dark Souls 3), the Faraam armor (Dark Souls 2), etc. Though not officially confirmed, fans assume outfits inspired by characters like Gwynevere and Yuria will also join this list.
Since the new trailer has revealed these Dark Souls outfits, players have become curious about acquiring these in-game cosmetic items. Well, these items don’t come for free. They are not even rewards for beating bosses; instead, players have to purchase them by spending Murk.
Murk is an in-game currency in Nightreign that players can only acquire by battling enemies in the game. Well, new cosmetics will be unlocked and equipped at the Roundtable Hold. Elden Ring players must remember this in-game base area from the original game. Nightreign also has a similar area. Here, players can rest, relax, and upgrade their weapons and equipment.
Once in Roundtable Hold, Nightreign players will be able to access Small Jar Bazaar, a special shop that will allow players to unlock and purchase new cosmetic items for Murk. The Dark Souls cosmetic items will also be purchased from there.
Character customization is not everything that the Elden Ring Nightreign and Dark Souls crossover is adding to the upcoming FromSoftware title. Aside from character customization, Nightreign incorporates bosses from the Dark Souls series. When the announcement trailer was revealed at the Games Awards 2024, fans spotted some of the iconic Dark Souls bosses in the game.
One of the infamous bosses from Dark Souls 3, the Nameless King, was shown in the trailer. As per the game director Junya Ishizaki, these Dark Souls inclusions are for both gameplay needs and to provide players with a fun experience.
Even though there’s no mention of Demon's Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne, players assume there are high possibilities that iconic bosses from these games will also be featured in Elden Ring Nightreign.
