Here are seven Stranger Things mysteries that still make no sense.
Chester, the Byers family's white dog, appeared in Season 1. After that, he disappeared without explanation. The family moved, faced danger, and endured trauma, yet the dog was never mentioned again.
Will’s return from the Upside Down was emotional. Pets often serve as a source of comfort during recovery. Chester's absence in later seasons creates an odd narrative gap. A brief scene suggests he may have died, but no explanation is provided.
In Season 1, rescuers wore Hazmat suits to pull Will out of the Upside Down. The toxic environment appeared dangerous and unbreathable. Later seasons showed characters entering the same space with no protection.
Nancy, Steve, Dustin, Robin, and Eddie spent long periods in the Upside Down. None of them wore protective gear. No one showed symptoms or side effects. The series never addressed the shift. It’s possible the suits were dropped for visual reasons, but the inconsistency remains confusing.
Eleven displayed limited speech during her first scenes. Her vocabulary seemed broken, and full sentences were rare. The behavior appeared to result from trauma or isolation.
Flashbacks later showed her speaking complete sentences in conversations with Dr. Brenner. These scenes portrayed a younger Eleven with the ability to express herself clearly. Her earlier struggle with language doesn’t match the character’s background.

Dr. Brenner seemed to die in Season 1 during a Demogorgon attack. The scene implied a fatal end for the show’s main villain. Later episodes revealed he survived without any visible explanation.
The show never explained how he escaped. The Demogorgon was shown to be lethal, even to armed characters. Brenner had no weapons or protection. His return helped move the plot forward, but made him feel more like a movie villain than a believable human antagonist.
A fake body was planted to make it appear Will had died. Joyce quickly realized it wasn’t her son. Authorities accepted the deception without question. The lab falsified everything, including the autopsy. The situation raises serious concerns. If the fake body wasn’t Will's, then whose body was it? Did no one question the ethics or legality of faking a child’s death?
Will’s return shocked his peers. He was mocked with the name ‘Zombie Boy.’ The town’s broader reaction was never shown. In a small place like Hawkins, such an event would dominate local news. Instead, the adults seemed to forget it happened.
Stranger Things introduces new characters in every season. These additions often become fan favorites. Then they usually die! Barbara in Season 1. Bob in Season 2. Alexei and Billy in Season 3. Eddie Munson in Season 4. These characters were not part of the original group, and most did not survive more than one season.
The main characters survive major injuries and battles. Supporting characters are not as lucky. The trend feels predictable. Max’s fate remains uncertain. Her survival could change the pattern. If not, the cycle may continue.
Dustin is one of the smartest kids in the group. He’s loyal, curious, and logical. That’s why his decision to keep Dart, the Demo-Dog, was so baffling. He discovered a strange creature and chose to care for it. At first, the threat wasn’t obvious. Once the group realized Dart was connected to the Upside Down, Dustin still protected it.
The creature eventually caused harm. Dustin ignored warnings from Will and others. Dart killed a family pet, and the danger became clear. Dustin then placed Dart’s body in a fridge, but the show never showed what happened next. That scene was never revisited.
Stranger Things remains one of Netflix’s most successful and beloved series. Its storytelling, cast, and suspense created a loyal fan base. Yet several inconsistencies and unexplained details persist.
These unresolved mysteries, from Chester’s disappearance to Dustin’s pet mistake, weaken the story’s logic. The final season has a chance to answer them, but time is running out. Until then, these questions continue to shadow an otherwise strong narrative.
