Bitcoin (BTC) is entering the weekend near USD 80,000 after one of its strongest monthly rebounds in years. The rally has attracted fresh ETF demand, revived altcoin momentum and shifted attention toward macroeconomic signals that could determine whether buyers remain aggressive.
Here are trends crypto investors should watch over the weekend.
BTC traded near USD 80,000 on Friday after briefly reaching USD 81,280. The cryptocurrency has gained roughly 9% over the past week and close to 30% during August, supported by dollar-debasement concerns and renewed institutional demand.
The next important area is around USD 82,000. A sustained breakout could strengthen momentum, while another rejection near USD 80,000-USD 81,000 may encourage weekend profit-taking.
According to SoSoValue, the US spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded nine consecutive trading sessions of net inflows, attracting USD 3.04 billion during the streak. On August 27, USD 242.24 million in net inflows entered the products.
August inflows have now exceeded USD 3 billion, making it the strongest month of 2026 so far. Continued institutional buying could support Bitcoin when traditional ETF markets reopen after the weekend.
The rally is broadening beyond Bitcoin. Solana climbed more than 6% over 24 hours to nearly USD 107 and gained around 18.70% during the week. Ethereum traded near USD 2,500 after an approximately 11% weekly gain, while XRP stood at USD 1.42 and also advanced close to 10%.
US Ethereum ETFs have simultaneously recorded a nine-session inflow streak exceeding USD 1 billion. XRP and Solana investment products also attracted fresh capital, suggesting investors are gradually moving further along the crypto risk curve.
Bitcoin’s move from roughly USD 62,000 to USD 80,000 was partly driven by short covering. Bitcoin-denominated futures open interest fell to a five-month low instead of rising aggressively with price, while crypto-margined open interest reached a record low.
That suggests the rally has not been driven entirely by highly leveraged bullish positions. However, lower weekend liquidity can still amplify sudden liquidations and price swings.
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks remain a major macro catalyst. Markets are watching for clues on interest rates as the US Dollar Index trades near 99.18 and the 10-year Treasury yield remains around 4.68%.
Regulation is another factor. The SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have already moved toward clearer crypto classifications, while uncertainty remains around congressional progress on the CLARITY Act.
Bitcoin’s weekend performance will likely depend on whether buyers can defend the USD 80,000 level while institutional demand remains strong. Continued altcoin momentum and relatively controlled leverage could support the broader market, but macroeconomic signals and thinner weekend liquidity may increase volatility.

1. Why is the USD 80,000 level important for Bitcoin this weekend?
USD 80,000 is acting as a key psychological and technical area after Bitcoin’s sharp August rally. Holding above it could support further upside, while repeated rejection may encourage short-term profit booking.
2. How strong are Bitcoin ETF inflows right now?
According to SoSoValue, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded nine consecutive sessions of net inflows totaling about USD 3.04 billion. On August 27 alone, the products attracted USD 242.24 million.
3. Which altcoins are showing strong momentum?
Solana, Ethereum and XRP have all posted notable weekly gains, with SOL among the strongest performers. Their gains suggest capital is beginning to rotate beyond Bitcoin into higher-risk crypto assets.
4. Is Bitcoin’s rally being driven by excessive leverage?
Current futures data suggests leverage has not reached extreme levels, as Bitcoin-denominated open interest fell to a five-month low during the rally. However, thin weekend liquidity can still trigger sharp liquidations.
5. What could move the crypto market over the weekend?
Investors are watching Federal Reserve signals, the US dollar, Treasury yields and developments around US crypto regulation. These factors, combined with ETF demand and weekend liquidity, could influence Bitcoin’s next move.
