All the Benefits Artificial Intelligence Gave Us

by April 21, 2018

There’s no need to say that we live in the age of technology. Artificial intelligence has become something face on a daily basis but have you ever stopped for a second and wondered what are the benefits artificial intelligence brings? Read on to find out.

Artificial Intelligence as a Broad Term

In the 1950s, experts in the field Minsky and McCarthy described artificial intelligence as a program that can perform any task just like a human would do it. This might be a fairly broad definition but it explains what artificial intelligence is all about. The point is, artificial intelligence systems are able to follow the behaviors we associate with human intelligence such as reasoning, planning, learning, problem-solving, etc.

Artificial intelligence plays a huge role in the world we live in. Just take a look at Apple’s Siri which has become a real virtual assistant. Siri is now intelligent enough to recognize who and what is in a photo or alert you in case you’re experiencing a credit card fraud. This is just an example of how artificial intelligence is being used today and shows how intelligence new machines can be.

There are two different types of artificial intelligence – narrow AI and general AI. Narrow AI includes all kinds of machines we use today. These machines possess the ability to perform certain tasks and are able to do it just like a human. The other type, general AI, includes flexible machines that have the ability to learn how to perform some tasks. This includes anything from dealing with spreadsheets to giving a haircut. General AI is something we usually get to see in sci-fi movies but it’s only the matter of time we’ll get to see these be used in our everyday life.

Make It Useful

Even though we’re still trying to figure out what is the best way to use artificial intelligence, it’s still pretty obvious that AI makes our everyday lives much easier. And it’s up to us to do whatever we can to make the most out of artificial intelligence we get to use.

It seems like there are so many different machines that possess artificial intelligence that can help individuals in their everyday endeavors. For example, since academic studies can be pretty detailed, transcribing the material so that you can get back to it can sometimes be an amazing idea. And with companies that offer academic transcription services using their AI technology, there’s no need for you to transcribe any material yourself. We’ve already talked about Apple’s Siri, but it just cannot be stressed enough how having a virtual assistant can help you in your academic or business career.

It’s also important to mention that artificial intelligence found its place in the world of business as well. More and more companies are relying on AI technology when it comes to their work. For example, many companies now use AI in order to up their customer service game. So, instead of using agents to perform repetitive tasks they use AI to help their customers deal with any issues they might be facing.

Pros and Cons of Artificial Intelligence

We’ve already said that artificial intelligence is a big part of our everyday lives and it seems like it’ll become even more powerful in the future. This sure seems like a good idea but it’s a bit frightening at the same time.

One of the best things about artificial intelligence is that it can replace humans when it comes to dealing with mundane tasks. Almost every factory out there uses some kind of automation that allows people to focus on more important aspects of their work. On top of this, by relying on artificial intelligence, companies avoid human errors that can sometimes turn out to be quite costly. It’s natural for people to make mistakes from time to time but AI (when programmed properly) simply doesn’t make these at all. Last but definitely not least, AI can take risks on human behalf. Just take a look at Mars rover expeditions and similar ventures into space that have been performed by AI.

However, artificial intelligence is often brought into connection with job loss. The smarter artificial intelligence we have, the fewer job opportunities there are for real people. Just think about driverless cars which pose a real threat to millions of people who work like taxi drivers or chauffeurs. Moreover, it’s considered that artificial intelligence can take control away from humans, dehumanizing their actions in many different ways. It’s also important to mention that AI doesn’t possess emotional intelligence, which is sometimes the key to making important decisions.

The Bottom Line

Even though artificial intelligence has been around for quite some time now, we’re still getting familiar with it and it’s impossible to predict how AI is going to affect our world. However, AI does bring a lot of benefits and it’s up to us to make the most out of them.
