Lean Tech is a nearshore services provider based out of Colombia specialized in technology services. The company recruits, trains, and builds high-performance development teams with a focus on the logistics industry. Lean Tech offers a truly flexible model that allows customers to extend their development teams to satellite offices in Medellin, the Silicon Valley of Colombia. At this touristic destination, customers can collaborate with their teams in customized, state-of-the-art facilities, resembling their home base's nature. The company's other models include custom software development, business analytics through DaaS (Data as a Service), RPA, Tier 1-3 support, and more.
Lean Tech is a division of a larger organization, Lean Staffing Solutions, a similar nearshore provider focused on back office positions for the logistics industry. Following its success, going from 15 to over 130 customers in 4 years with more than 1,600 workers, Lean Tech was spun out of Lean Staffing to be its own disruptor, providing customers with the tools to create software automation alongside industry experts to enhance employee performance, helping organizations find the perfect balance between man and machine.
The world of automation is challenging to navigate nowadays, with many believing that investing large sums of money is the only road towards digitization and added efficiencies through technology. Lean Tech presents the path of least resistance towards building a fully automation-driven organization. The company offers to hire dedicated automation engineers, besides providing assistance to develop their own automation middleware. Since its inception less than a year ago, Lean Tech has brought on board more than 200 engineers and has helped more than 40 customers in their digitization journey.
Alfonso Quijano is the COO & Co-founder of Lean Tech. He is a proud Colombian but North American by heart, sharing much of the culture he believes has made the company successful. Alfonso is an Electronic Engineer with a heavy focus on software development. He always had an eye for building innovative technology for the logistics industry, from in-vehicle face recognition systems for driver white listing and RFID inventory tracking for truck trailers to fully blown Transportation Management Systems enhanced through AI, RPA, and more.
At Lean Tech, Alfonso helps companies of all sizes navigate their technology roadmaps more efficiently by establishing a true technology partnership while providing an incredible customer experience. He manages all the operations, including talent, sales, marketing, IT, and directly leads the research and software development squad and the business analytics teams.
Lean Tech is a data-driven company in its entirety. The company uses third-party project management software to fuel an internal data warehouse through custom-built middleware and ETL services. The information it gathers helps it make better decisions about its project estimation strategies, employee happiness metrics, and deep insights into its operations. This information is portrayed in custom-built software and BI dashboards or to create automations that help small teams tackle repetitive tasks with ease while concentrating on strategy.
One of Lean Tech's most advanced projects includes the ability to create turnkey full-blown custom software/infrastructure/automations allowing the company to ship out software approximately 40% faster than the competition, while delivering unique, fully proprietary software projects for its clients each time.
Speaking on disruptive technologies, Alfonso says, "By enhancing customer service, artificial intelligence and automation are changing the way we perceived traditional roles. These technologies have allowed us to identify repetitive tasks in nature and that can be taken care of by automation, freeing up time from organizations allowing them to work on what truly moves their business forward."
He adds that AI & automation are big buzzwords that need to be deployed correctly with a clear objective for them to impact all organizations positively. The true disruption will come from changing organizational structures to incorporate these technologies, paving the way for future innovation.
Alfonso believes that the entire Lean organization, including Lean Tech, always had an included consulting branch that granted customers who were already working with the company to improve their processes. This kind of approach allows the company to have the perfect ecosystem to grow a highly innovative and customer-centric automation business. The company knows the exact pain points that its customers face each day and how to fix them. Alfons shares, "What we have found out is that most organizations know this too, but do not have the focus to convert it to real value, even with internal efforts. That is where Lean Tech's magic comes in; our Lean organization offers more than just technology resources. We offer a set of practices that are directly translated into technology solutions for your business. Our key partners include several major players in the logistics industry, such as Truckstop."
Sharing his views on the current RPA industry scenario, Alfonso says that RPA software's democratization will be the next step. He continues, several organizations have jumped on the automation wagon such as Microsoft with their low-code automation solution called power automate. This simple action further validates that automation is an obscure technology to many nowadays that is not accessible to the base user. Automation should be at the fingertips of every user without being a power user. Simple tools such as Gmail, outlook, that are used every day will eventually have built in out of the box automation with currently complex features such as email classification models for auto responses, building chatbots, and allowing users to pick and choose which data rules their AI powered tools.
Lean Tech is a proud sponsor of the popular FreightWaves event; a digital media company focused on the logistics industry providing enhanced market insights/forecasts through data analytics. The company showcases the work of its R&D department as it relates to cutting-edge innovation and has been awarded best in show alongside several much larger organizations. Lean Tech's nimble nature has helped its customers focus on what they do best while allowing the company to take on the heavy lifting of technology building, including go to market strategies for its newly created products, maintenance/support, as well as outgoing sales after launch.
Due to this, it has enabled companies that would otherwise spend up to four times more in technology budgets ship out products in record time and bring on new business opportunities that have allowed them to grow with Lean Tech. The company has successfully launched 55 applications since its inception.
Lean Tech will be launching an internal division called Lean-RPA, which will be entirely focused on automation. This would bring cohesion between its sister companies, which are all working with clients looking to automate their processes. In the next five years, the company plans to have a workforce of over 1000+ developers in Lean Tech alone. Alfonso states, "With automation in our blood, we will strive to bring all sorts of automation skill sets to the rest of our organization, that is, we will provide the means for all employees to craft bots and automation tools that will drive companies forward, subtly bundled into their operations. Soon, RPA will be as easy to use and implement as opening up your email client in your browser, and we will be the pioneers of this movement for the logistics industry."
