Nothing is all set to roll out Nothing OS 5.0. The new software is based on Android 17 and brings more than 80 changes to supported phones. The Open Beta will begin on August 26 at 3:30 pm IST and, reportedly, Nothing Phone (3) will be the first device to have it. The stable update for the phone is expected in October.
Nothing has focused on making the software faster and easier to use. The update brings a new home screen, where the search bar uses transparent detailing and app icons pick up subtle tints. It also improves touch response and memory use. Users will also get better privacy controls and a cleaner Recent Apps screen. It will bring Glyph a new dedicated app.
Regarding the models, Phone (4a) Pro gets the beta in early September, while the (4a), (3a), and (3a) Pro get it in late September. The (2a) and (2a) Plus will receive it in mid-October. However, older models such as Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 will not receive Nothing OS 5.0.
Phone (3) owners have the biggest advantage this time. They will be able to try Nothing OS 5.0 before other supported devices. One of the more interesting additions is Essential Apps Builder. Users can describe the app they want, and the tool can help create it without the need to write code.
Nothing is also adding a new way to share files with iPhones. Users can use a QR code to send files between supported devices. Still, this is a beta release. Some features may not work perfectly, and users may encounter bugs. Those who need their phone for work may want to wait for the stable version.
