India’s second-largest IT services company, Infosys, has asked senior employees to work from the office at least four days a week. The move tightens its hybrid work policy amid pressure from large technology firms to prioritize in-person collaboration.

The directive applies to employees at job level 6 (JL6) and above, including delivery managers, senior managers, and programme managers.

What Has Changed in Policy?

Infosys previously required employees with JL7 and above to work in the office four days a week. The company has now extended the rule to JL6 staff, widening the return-to-office mandate.

Internal communication to employees said some teams were not meeting the minimum office attendance levels set under the hybrid model. The revised rule aims to increase the presence of senior staff in the workplace.

Managers at these levels lead project delivery, oversee client engagement, and coordinate teams. The company expects stronger office attendance to support faster decisions and closer collaboration.

How does Hybrid Framework Operate?

Infosys adopted a hybrid model after reopening offices following the pandemic. The framework sets clear limits on remote work across different roles.

Under the policy:

  • Entry- and mid-level employees must work in the office at least 10 days a month. Employees can request up to five additional work from home days per quarter, except for medical reasons.

  • Senior staff at JL6 and above must now work from the office four days a week.

The company positions the model as a balance between flexibility and operational needs.

Are Other IT Firms Taking Similar Steps?

Infosys is not alone in tightening office attendance. Major IT services companies have introduced stricter hybrid rules over the past two years.

Tata Consultancy Services has implemented mandatory office work requirements, which it connects to employee performance assessment in particular situations. Wipro requires employees to work in the office several days a week, with a minimum hourly attendance requirement.

Industry experts believe that physical workspaces provide better support for client delivery, training, and team coordination. The sector continues to move away from pandemic-era remote work toward structured hybrid schedules.
