The Supreme Court of India will be using Artificial Intelligence to transcribe its Proceedings.
The Supreme Court began a ground-breaking effort on Tuesday (February 21) to use artificial intelligence to live-transcribe its sessions (AI). The AI transcript can be seen on courtroom number 1's live-streaming screen, which is the CJI's court. The case involving the political turmoil in Maharashtra is being heard by the five-judge bench led by the CJI.
The decision of whether to reconsider the 2016 ruling of the court in Nabam Rebia v. Deputy Speaker, which had held that the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly cannot decide on disqualification petitions while a motion seeking his own removal is pending, had been deferred by the Bench until next week. Following the SC's decision to stream its sessions before the Constitution Benches live online, the transcription is the second significant decision to make the court more transparent.
Senior attorney Indira Jaising suggested that hearings be recorded in her motion for the live telecast of judicial sessions. The platform Teres, which is frequently used for the transcription of arbitration hearings, is being used for the SC transcription. The platform is managed by Bengaluru-based Nomology Technologies Private Ltd. The presence of two or more voices at once "causes a little bit of a problem," according to CJI Chandrachud. Nonetheless, he continued, "they have staff on hand who will correct the mistakes by evening. "The transcript will also likely be posted each evening on the SC website and distributed to attorneys who argued cases for verification.
Court transcripts are accessible to litigants and the general public in the US. The US Supreme Court makes the sessions' audio and text transcripts available. The majority of court sessions are stenographically recorded by many municipal courts in the US. If the hearing is recorded, a party can pay a fee to request a transcript of the court proceedings in the UK.
