PM Modi Announced January 16th as ‘National Startup Day’

National Startup Day: Another step by the government in freeing entrepreneurs and innovation from bureaucratic silos.

PM Modi on Saturday had announced that January 16th will be celebrated as 'National Startup Day' to help percolate startup culture to the grass-root level. At present, India has more than 60,000 startups and 42 unicorns. According to PM Modi, National Startup Day is another step by the government in freeing entrepreneurs and innovation from bureaucratic silos.

On the occasion, over 150 startups, divided into six groups, gave presentations on six different themes namely Growing from Roots, Nudging the DNA, From Local to Global, Technology for Future, Building Champions in Manufacturing, and Sustainable Development. The entrepreneurs presented their ideas and insights on their respective themes and highlighted the role of innovation and technology in enhancing businesses and market reach.

The Indian Technology start-up landscape has evolved to become the 4th largest in the world. Since 2010 there has been a significant rise in the growth of technology startups, and e2014 India was home to 3,000 technology start-ups. As the demand for technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, Robotics, Blockchain, and more is increasing, it won't take long for Indian Technology start-ups to rule the industry.

"The startup ecosystem in India has always been vibrant, but the last two years have been phenomenal; what with the country having more than tripled the number of unicorns in the last two years. The latest announcement of January 16 to be celebrated as National Startup Day is definitely a welcome development. Innovation and risk-taking are often glorified with very little thought to the things entrepreneurs put online, to actualize their startup dream. A day like this may help bring about stories of grit and hard work to the fore and encourage young and upcoming entrepreneurs," said Bhaskar Chatterjee, Head of Products & Marketing at Ezetap.

India has always been a country of innovators and creative leaders, and it is believed that Indian Technology start-ups can bring back the past glory of India. After the initiative taken by the Indian government, people have started to respect and utilize Indian products. It is a proud moment for all Indian entrepreneurs who have been working hard to break the perception and bring India to par with the international brands. The launch of the National Startup Day will boost the confidence in present entrepreneurs and eventually encourage youths and future generations. The future of technology and innovation is very bright, which will fuel the growth of the Indian economy.

Rajul Jain, Co-Founder & CEO at Increff, said, "We have always been a nation of innovators and out-of-the-box thought leaders and I believe startups can bring back the past glory of India. The generalized perception of a foreign brand, technology, or product, being superior to its home-grown alternative is now broken and we have started valuing what is our own. It's a proud moment for all Indian innovators and entrepreneurs who have been working hard to break the perception and bring India to par with the international brands. The launch of the National Startup Day celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship which will encourage every individual, irrespective of their age, gender, educational background, to create an impact. The world is watching us and we have a long way to go. The future of technology and innovation is very bright, which will fuel the growth of the Indian economy."
