WhatsApp Privacy Settings: Simple Changes for Better Protection

Hide Your Last Seen And Online Status

WhatsApp lets you control who can see when you were last active and whether you are online. Open Privacy settings and choose your preferred audience. Limiting this information can give you more control over your activity and reduce unwanted attention from other users.

Control Who Can See Your Profile Photo

Your profile photo may reveal personal details to people outside your contacts. WhatsApp lets you limit its visibility to everyone, your contacts, selected contacts, or nobody, depending on the available options. Choose a setting that matches your comfort level and keeps strangers from viewing your picture.

Enable Two-Step Verification For Extra Security

Two-step verification adds another layer of protection to your WhatsApp account. Enable it under Account settings and create a six-digit PIN. WhatsApp may ask for this PIN when you register your number again. Never share the PIN with anyone, even if a message appears trustworthy.

Silence Calls From Unknown Numbers

Calls from unknown numbers can be annoying and may come from scammers. WhatsApp offers a Silence Unknown Callers option under Privacy settings. Turn it on to stop these calls from ringing on your phone. They may still appear in your call list, helping you review them later.

Limit Who Can Add You To Groups

Being added to unknown groups can expose your phone number and fill your chats with unwanted messages. Open WhatsApp Privacy settings and select Groups. Choose who can add you directly. Restricting this option can reduce spam and give you greater control over group invitations.

Set Messages To Disappear Automatically

Disappearing messages can help reduce the amount of chat history stored in your conversations. WhatsApp lets you set a default timer for new chats or enable the feature for specific conversations. Remember that recipients may still save, copy, or capture messages before they disappear from the chat.

Protect Chats And Review Linked Devices

Chat Lock can help keep selected conversations away from casual viewers by placing them behind your device authentication. You should also review Linked Devices in WhatsApp settings and log out of any device you no longer recognize or use. These steps help reduce unwanted access to private conversations.
