The trailer of Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam has been released, introducing Rajkummar Rao as special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Directed by Avinash Arun, the film focuses on the courtroom battle surrounding Ajmal Kasab’s trial after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The film releases theatrically on October 16.

Rajkummar Rao as Ujjwal Nikam

Rajkummar Rao portrays Ujjwal Nikam, the prosecutor who represented the state during the Kasab trial. The trailer highlights his courtroom arguments, witness questioning and efforts to build the prosecution’s case. Rao’s appearance, body language and Marathi dialogue delivery are central to his portrayal of the veteran prosecutor in the film.

The 26/11 Kasab Trial

The film centres on the legal proceedings against Ajmal Kasab, the sole surviving attacker captured after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Rather than focusing mainly on the attacks themselves, Prahaar shifts attention toward the courtroom proceedings and Nikam’s role in the high-profile prosecution that followed the attacks.

Kasab’s Courtroom Claim

A major moment in the trailer shows Kasab taking the witness stand and claiming he was a tourist rather than a terrorist. The trailer also depicts the defense raising his claim that he was 17. Nikam challenges these arguments as the prosecution works to establish Kasab’s involvement in the attacks. 

Wamiqa Gabbi and Supporting Cast

Wamiqa Gabbi plays Jyoti Nikam, portraying the personal side of Ujjwal Nikam’s life. Sikandar Kher appears as a lawyer representing the opposing side, while Jaideep Ahlawat, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Nassar also feature in important roles. The ensemble adds courtroom, diplomatic, and personal dimensions to the story. 

Avinash Arun Directs

Avinash Arun directs Prahaar, with Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films backing the project. The trailer moves between recreated scenes from the 26/11 attacks, courtroom proceedings, and moments from Nikam’s personal life. The film presents the case through the prosecutor’s perspective, with legal arguments forming the central narrative rather than action sequences.

Release Date

Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026. The trailer sets up a courtroom-focused story involving the Kasab trial, public scrutiny, and the legal proceedings that followed the 26/11 attacks. Rajkummar Rao leads the film as Ujjwal Nikam.
