Only AI Characters can turn Metaverse Ghost Towns into Virtual Hotspots

Many of the metaverse projects that have been launched are in the world of gaming

From virtual goods to AI characters that can be hired out by companies, a fast-growing digital world is pushing ownership and privacy rights into unchartered territory. The Metaverse has become one of the hottest technology and socioeconomic topic. Combining different technologies like VR, 3D animation, blockchain, and many others, companies are already working on creating services for this new digital world. Even tech giant Facebook changed its name to Meta, demonstrating that the Metaverse is truly targeting to become the next big mainstream technology.

While a lot has been said about the role of blockchain in the Metaverse, thanks in part to the big NFT hype, people are wondering what was being said about the intersection of the Metaverse and AI. Inworld AI, a company that aims to develop a platform that enables users to create AI characters that can be used to populate virtual worlds, announced today that it has raised US$7 million in seed funding. In an exclusive interview with Venture Beat, Inworld's cofounder and CEO Ilya Gelfenbeyn explained that "Inworld AI is a platform for building, basically brains for AI characters" to populate virtual environments, including the metaverse, VR, and AR worlds. "What we provide is a toolset that enables developers to add brains and build these characters for the world, for different types of environments."

Many of the metaverse projects that have been launched are in the world of gaming. However, more often than not, these projects simply consist of standard gaming features combined with virtual reality and NFTs. A true metaverse, in the sense of a digital parallel universe to our analog world, is a digitally simulated reality in which participants can take part in diverse social, economic, entertainment, and artistic activities.
