World Foundation has raised $52.5 million through a strategic sale of WLD tokens led by Pantera Capital. The funding will support the global expansion of World ID, a digital system designed to confirm that users are unique humans.

Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto also joined the sale. All WLD tokens purchased in the round will remain locked for 12 months, limiting immediate market circulation.

Pantera Leads Locked WLD Token Sale

World Foundation announced the transaction on July 24, as the World network marked three years since its public launch. The organization said the sale represents the first close of the funding round, although it did not confirm whether more sales will follow.

The foundation plans to use the capital to expand World ID across businesses, consumer platforms, and services used by artificial intelligence agents. Pantera Capital general partner Cosmo Jiang said, “The need for Proof of Human is becoming acutely clear with the acceleration of AI development.”

The sale does not give investors equity in Tools for Humanity, the company that develops World’s software and Orb devices. World Foundation said WLD tokens do not provide ownership rights, profit claims, or returns linked to the company.

World Foundation and related entities had previously raised about $200 million through WLD sales. Tools for Humanity has also secured about $240 million in venture funding. Including the latest transaction, total funding linked to the project stands near $492.5 million.

World ID Targets Bots and AI Fraud

World ID allows a user to prove they are a unique person without publicly sharing their identity. A user completes a one-time iris scan through a device called an Orb. The system then creates a digital credential stored on the user’s phone.

World says the process uses zero-knowledge proofs and multi-party computation to limit exposure of personal data. The technology aims to reduce bot activity, fake accounts, deepfakes, and synthetic identities across digital services.

The network has attracted more than 39 million registered users, according to the foundation. More than 18 million people have completed Orb verification, while the system has processed over 475 million identity proofs since July 2023.

Several companies have started adding World ID tools to their platforms. The listed services include Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder. These integrations allow platforms to check whether an account belongs to a verified human.

World ID 4.0 Expands Enterprise Access

World Foundation is preparing to release World ID 4.0, an enterprise-focused version of the identity system. The update will support large-scale integrations and allow outside developers to create custom credentials within the World network.

The organization expects companies to use the system for online access, account protection, age checks, and fraud controls. It also plans to offer verification tools for AI agents that need proof of human authorization.

World’s biometric model continues to face regulatory review. Authorities in Kenya, Spain, Brazil, Indonesia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and the Philippines have examined or restricted parts of its operations over privacy, consent, and data-handling concerns.

World says it continues to work with regulators while expanding the network. The latest WLD token sale gives the foundation more funding for enterprise development, user growth, and wider deployment of its proof-of-human technology.
