WhatsApp has launched a guest calling feature to allow users to join video and voice calls without an account. Once the feature goes live, people don’t even need to download the app to join a call, and this reduces the effort to invite friends for a group call.

Reportedly, users can invite up to 32 people to a call, with no time limit. Calls remain end-to-end encrypted, keeping conversations private. The feature could make it easier to hold work meetings, attend online classes, or catch up with family members who do not use WhatsApp.

Starting a guest call is simple. A WhatsApp user can open the Calls tab, tap the plus (+) icon, create a call link, and share it. Guests can open the link in a computer browser, enter their name, and wait for the host to let them in. They can also share their screen, raise a hand, and use emoji reactions. However, guests cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, send messages, or invite more people. Additionally, the host can remove any guest from a call anytime.

Reports have pointed out that WhatsApp has further plans to add Google Calendar and Outlook support later this year. Once this feature goes live, users need to log in to their accounts and create call links directly through their calendars. Then they can share the links with invitees. On the day of the call, invitees will be able to click on the link and join the call.

Will Easy Access Bring More People to WhatsApp Calls?

The new ‘Guest Call’ feature is especially for those who don’t need to join calls regularly. Additionally, it will help the messaging platform to reach a wider audience who are afraid of logging into platforms. The easy access matters, but it won’t be enough alone.

Meta has to work on call quality, simple controls, and a smooth browser experience to make the experience better. Once Calendar support comes, it will make things even more convenient for people who have no WhatsApp account.
