Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerged ahead of Accenture to take over the India global capability centre (GCC) operations of US consumer electronics retailer Best Buy. The reported five-year engagement is estimated at around Rs. 2,000 crore. The mandate will cover Best Buy’s India GCC operations along with a broader technology services portfolio spanning data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI).
Best Buy had floated a request for proposal (RFP) for the technology services engagement. Looks like TCS reportedly secured the mandate on the strength of competitive pricing, aggressive service-level agreements (SLAs) and productivity benefits.
Reportedly, Accenture came out as the main competitor to TCS in the final stages of the selection process. It is also understood that Wipro was among those firms that were initially shortlisted. The value of the contract was not disclosed. TCS, Accenture, Wipro, and Best Buy have not responded to queries as yet.
The new mandate builds on TCS’s existing relationship with Best Buy. The IT services company already provides technology services and supports the retailer’s digital transformation initiatives.
The deal comes as Best Buy increases its focus on AI and digital commerce. The retailer reported FY2026 revenue of $41.7 billion, compared with $41.5 billion a year earlier. Comparable sales increased 0.5%.
Computing and mobile phones supported growth, while weaker sales in home theatre and appliances partly offset the gains.
For TCS, the mandate highlights the growing competition for large GCC and technology transformation contracts. It also shows how GCC engagements are expanding beyond traditional IT operations into AI, analytics, engineering and digital transformation.
