The Indian stock market will take a short festive break in October 2025 for Diwali and Balipratipada. Both BSE and NSE will stay closed for four days from October 19 to October 22.

The break starts on Sunday, October 19, which is Dhanteras. Markets will stay shut through the weekend and also on October 21 (Diwali Laxmi Pujan) and October 22 (Balipratipada). The MCX and currency markets will also be closed during these days.

Special Muhurat Trading Session During Diwali

In any case, the holiday will still come with one exceptional event – the Muhurat Trading session. October 21 marks the moment when the new Hindu financial year, Samvat 2082, begins and the one-hour trading window from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM will also be conducted on that day.

Muhurat Trading is seen as a lucky time for investors. Many buy small amounts of shares to welcome good fortune for the year ahead. The BSE and NSE have confirmed that trades made during this session will be settled normally.

The special session will include trading in shares, derivatives, and other segments. There will also be a short pre-opening time before the session starts, and trade changes can be made until 3:15 PM.

Positive Vibes Expected on Dalal Street

In past years, this event has brought a happy mood to Dalal Street. In 2024, the Sensex rose by 335 points, while the Nifty 50 went up by 99 points during the Muhurat session. Market experts expect the same positive feeling this year too. Many investors see this time as a chance to begin the new year with hope and wealth.

Regular trading will start again on October 23, after the four-day break. This Diwali, Dalal Street will shine not only with lights and colors but also with the spirit of good beginnings through Muhurat Trading 2025, offering investors a symbolic fresh start for the financial year ahead.
