Robinhood has added USD 25 million in Bitcoin to its balance sheet as the trading platform expands its broader cryptocurrency business. The purchase adds a Bitcoin treasury position as Robinhood expands its perpetual futures, Layer 2 network and stock-token businesses. Senior crypto executive Johann Kerbrat said the company made the purchase to align its business more closely with the crypto community.
Kerbrat, Robinhood’s senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international, discussed the purchase during an interview with The Block’s Gareth Jenkinson and Kelvin Sparks.
He said Robinhood cares deeply about Bitcoin and the ecosystem surrounding it. According to Kerbrat, the purchase aligns the company and its vision with the wider crypto sector.
The USD 25 million allocation remains small compared with Robinhood’s overall market value. Kerbrat said the Bitcoin position would not materially change the company’s current financial trajectory.
Robinhood shares closed Tuesday at USD 112 after falling 1.85%. That closing price placed the Nasdaq-listed company’s market capitalization at roughly USD 100 billion.
Still, the purchase puts Bitcoin directly on Robinhood’s balance sheet while other listed companies continue adding the asset. Strategy disclosed another Bitcoin purchase on Monday.
Strategy acquired 334 BTC for about USD 28.7 million between September 28 and October 4. It paid an average of USD 85,838.80 per Bitcoin.
The latest purchase increased Strategy’s total holdings to 848,000 BTC. Robinhood’s allocation remains far smaller and serves a different purpose within its broader crypto strategy.
For now, Kerbrat described the USD 25 million position primarily as a way to align Robinhood’s corporate vision with the crypto community.
The balance-sheet move follows Robinhood’s announcement of perpetual futures for eligible U.S. users. The company plans to launch the products in the coming months.
The offering will allow eligible traders to take long or short positions across several crypto assets. Those assets include BTC, Ether, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, ADA, LINK and HYPE.
Chief Executive Vlad Tenev said the products will have no expiry. Robinhood also plans to settle profit and loss every 15 minutes.
Tenev described the offering as a new chapter for U.S. derivatives. The rollout adds another crypto product to a platform that already serves millions of funded accounts.
Kerbrat said Robinhood has 28 million funded accounts. About 27 million accounts sit in the United States, while roughly one million remain outside the country.
Meanwhile, Robinhood Wallet extends the company’s crypto reach further. Kerbrat said the wallet operates in more than 120 countries and serves as the official wallet for Robinhood Chain.

Robinhood is also building Robinhood Chain using Arbitrum’s technology stack. The Layer 2 network entered public mainnet in July.
Its total value locked reached USD 1.05 billion as of Tuesday, according to The Block’s data dashboard. Kerbrat linked the network’s potential distribution to Robinhood’s large user base.
The company has also introduced Stock Tokens. Eligible users can trade the products around the clock directly through Robinhood Chain.
Kerbrat said stock-token activity has already reached levels that could encounter volume limits under the Securities and Exchange Commission’s innovation exemption for tokenized U.S. equities.
He said Robinhood continues reviewing the exemption’s parameters. Those rules include limits on trading volume and restrictions covering which assets companies can tokenize.
Kerbrat said Robinhood’s existing stock-token volume already stands high enough to approach some of those limits. The company continues expanding its crypto products while working within those parameters.
Robinhood’s USD 25 million Bitcoin purchase adds a treasury position to its expanding crypto business. The company is also developing perpetual futures, Robinhood Chain and stock tokens while serving 28 million funded accounts and extending its wallet to more than 120 countries.
