Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan has been added to the initial speaker lineup for Ripple Swell 2026, the company’s annual conference focused on payments and digital assets. Rajan will attend the invitation-only Institutional Summit on October 27 in New York City.
Ripple announced Rajan’s participation in a September 4 press release. The Institutional Summit will open Swell week before the wider conference runs until October 29 at The Shed in New York City.
The invitation-only summit is aimed at representatives from banks, investment firms, payment providers and other financial institutions. Ripple is also combining Swell with its developer-focused XRPL Apex conference for the first time this year.
Ripple has not yet disclosed Rajan’s discussion topic, session time, or presentation format. The conference website lists him as a speaker but does not specify whether he will deliver a keynote or participate in a panel.
Rajan was governor of the Reserve Bank of India from September 2013 to September 2016. Earlier, he was chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Rajan is currently Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago. He is also a co-chair of the Federal Reserve’s task force on balance sheet policy.
Rajan’s connection to Ripple is not new. In 2024, Ripple established an advisory board for its RLUSD ecosystem, and Rajan has been a member. The board was formed to provide strategic and regulatory advice. Rajan has also talked about the future of stablecoins, which could soon be integrated into private payment systems.

The 2026 edition of Swell will take place at The Shed in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards. The conference and XRPL Apex talks will continue through October 29.
Ripple’s decision to combine the two events brings institutional finance and XRP Ledger development under a single program. The wider lineup includes executives and representatives from financial institutions, technology companies, academia, and the blockchain sector.
The complete conference schedule is yet to be released. Ripple is expected to provide more details about Rajan’s session, as well as the topics and formats for several other confirmed speakers.
For now, Rajan’s addition places a prominent former central banker and international finance expert among the speakers at Ripple’s 2026 conference, as the company brings institutional finance and digital assets into the same forum.
