Google’s Rambler voice-typing feature, introduced with the Pixel 11 series, is now available on other Android phones through an unofficial modified version of Gboard called PixelBoard. The project, developed by Akshay Kadam, brings Gemini-powered dictation and basic writing tools to supported non-Pixel devices without requiring root access.

What is PixelBoard and How does it Work?

Rambler goes beyond conventional voice typing by cleaning spoken words before converting them into text. It removes filler words, corrects grammar and punctuation, and can turn rough speech into clearer sentences or lists.

Unlike traditional dictation tools, Rambler displays the processed text after the user finishes speaking rather than providing a live, word-by-word preview.

PixelBoard is based on a modified Gboard build and can be installed alongside the regular keyboard without replacing it. The available APK is based on Gboard 18.4.1 and weighs approximately 127MB.

The project also allows users to patch a stock Gboard APK using the included Morphe Manager bundle. Its source code is available on GitHub.

Which AI Features are Available?

PixelBoard brings Rambler voice typing and several basic AI writing tools to compatible non-Pixel Android phones. These include options to proofread, rephrase, shorten, and expand text.

However, not all features are available. Writing Tools V2 and the on-device AICore and Astrea inference options remain restricted to Pixel hardware, according to the project’s repository notes.

Google has not confirmed whether it plans to make Rambler officially available on other Android devices.

How to Get PixelBoard on Android

Users can download the APK from the PixelBoard GitHub releases page and install it manually. After installation, they can enable PixelBoard under their phone’s keyboard settings and set it as the default keyboard.

The regular Gboard app can remain installed, allowing users to switch between the two keyboards.

However, sideloading requires caution. A modified keyboard can potentially access sensitive information typed on a device, including private messages and passwords. Users should review the project’s source code and consider the security implications before installing it.

What Android Users Should Know

PixelBoard allows non-Pixel users to experience Google’s advanced voice-typing, but it remains an unofficial modification. Some features remain Pixel-exclusive, and compatibility may vary by device.

Users who prefer an official keyboard installation can consider Microsoft SwiftKey, which offers conventional voice-typing functionality.
