Paytm has launched the AI Soundbox, its latest invention, at a global Fintech Festival in Mumbai. This new AI device provides a major enhancement to merchant payments by turning the familiar payment alert box into an intelligent business assistant.
Following its announcement, the company’s shares soared by 2.5% to an intraday high of Rs. 1,254.60 before finally closing 1.4% higher at Rs. 1,241.20. This displayed investor confidence in the app’s AI-powered strategy.
This Paytm AI device operates through an Android platform with an AI assistant interacting with merchants across 11 regional languages. The soundbox offers real-time updates such as daily sales summaries, payment histories, and quick performance reports.
It presents voice and display-based feedback rather than just an alert system for payments, so merchants can efficiently manage their collections.
The device has two screens: a touchscreen that faces forward for users' interaction and another atop it that shows instant payment updates. It supports all major payment methods, including tap, scan, and card.
One can use it on 4G or Wi-Fi networks. A Paytm Button is built to give merchants instant access to help and payment details, making it a faithful all-in-one companion for small businesses.
Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma said, “From bringing QR code-based mobile payments to innovating the mass-scale trust device, Soundbox, we are now entering the intelligence age with multiple AI-first products.” He added that the Paytm AI Soundbox aims to make the power of Artificial Intelligence accessible to small and micro enterprises, enabling them to scale faster and work more efficiently.
The company has also introduced a fair-use AI token subscription, allowing merchants to use the assistant freely within limits, with additional usage billed later. According to Paytm’s official blog, the original Soundbox was inspired by Sharma’s real-life experience at a shop where SMS alerts failed. This innovation now provides a smart, connected AI companion for business owners.
The Paytm AI Soundbox represents a natural advancement from a simple payment notification unit to a full-fledged intelligent analytics hub. The present model engages more with the languages, providing data and insights, and AI interaction. This innovation can improve financial awareness and operational decision-making.
