Personalization has become an important feature of modern AI tools, defining how digital conversations function. OpenAI’s recent update gives users enhanced control over ChatGPT by introducing warmth and enthusiasm features in personalization settings.
This reflects rising expectations that AI should adapt to diverse communication styles, including business, education, and daily life. AI now provides more precise, more balanced, and contextually appropriate responses.
What makes this change compelling is the shift of tone control into human hands. Instead of usual replies, conversations can now match mood and purpose. This raises an intriguing question: how different could work, learning, and creativity feel when AI speaks as expected?
After months of feedback about ChatGPT’s tone, OpenAI has modified the product based on input that it was either too polite or too unemotional. Concerns were also raised about the potential for unhealthy interaction patterns caused by ChatGPT’s excessive flattery.
With this new update, OpenAI allows users to create their own personalized experience by selecting a tone directly from the user, rather than OpenAI determining the tone of interaction with ChatGPT. As a result, the user can have more control over how they interact with ChatGPT to suit their needs. This change reflects an increasing desire among consumers and organizations for more natural, context-aware interactions with AI, whether for work or play.
To create a more personalized ChatGPT experience, simply click your profile icon and select Personalization. Next, click Add Characteristics, and a window will pop up that lets you modify the Warmth, Enthusiasm, Emojis, and Headers & Lists characteristics of ChatGPT.
From this window, you have three toggles that can be adjusted to set the level of warmth, enthusiasm, emojis, and lists you wish. Users now have several ways to customize how they want to use ChatGPT – the business-like tone of ChatGPT with precision, a warm tone, or a tone that sits somewhere in between.
These new options expand on the customization features for ChatGPT introduced earlier in 2025. Users could previously choose base ChatGPT tone settings, such as Professional or Quirky. The addition of detailed adjustments for warmth and enthusiasm allows for more accurate personalization.
Moreover, using emojis and formatting headers are other characteristics that help present information. For example, toggling emoji use can make conversations feel informal or restrained, depending on user preference.
AI analysts observe that empowering users with control over tone signals industry trends toward more humane, user-centered AI. Making changes like enthusiasm helps tools feel more adapted and responsive to particular communication styles. Some professionals even associate these tone controls with a better user experience in workplaces where tone can affect communication clarity.
