OpenAI has hired Graham Seamans, a former xAI sales executive, to lead sales for its cybersecurity business. The appointment marks the third major sales hire from SpaceX-linked companies in nearly a month, according to Bloomberg.
Seamans joined xAI in August 2025 and helped sell its Grok chatbot to enterprise customers, with Wall Street firms as a key target. Before that, he spent about eight years at database company MongoDB, where he held senior sales positions in the US and Northern Europe. Brian McCarthy joined OpenAI in September 2026, followed by Ismail Elmas in early October.
Separately, Anthropic gave US lawmakers a confidential draft bill that would let the federal government intervene in the deployment of advanced AI models facing imminent catastrophic risks, Politico reported on October 16.
The proposal would set strict conditions for government action. These include potential damage exceeding USD 1 billion or risks involving the deaths or serious injuries of more than 50 people.
The draft identifies biological weapons, developers losing control of their models, and cyberattacks as key areas of concern. It also calls for independent testing, greater transparency, and ongoing evaluations of advanced AI systems. Developers would also need to report emerging risks to the department within 72 hours.
Anthropic has also promoted its Advanced AI Framework to lawmakers since June 2026. Neither the federal proposal nor its provisions have become law. The draft has not been formally introduced, leaving its eventual scope uncertain. OpenAI's hiring drive reflects a growing focus on commercial growth, while Anthropic's proposal underscores the debate over federal safeguards for increasingly capable AI systems.
