Meta launched Muse Spark 1.3, its latest AI model focused on coding, reasoning, and AI agent capabilities. The model is designed to handle longer and more complex tasks, use tools more efficiently, and work more independently, putting Meta in direct competition with AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

The latest model is part of a growing shift in artificial intelligence, where systems are expected to do more than answer questions. Muse Spark 1.3 can understand an objective, plan steps, use tools, evaluate results, and adjust its approach when required.

Meta says the model can maintain context across multiple steps, adapt when it encounters problems, and complete tasks with fewer interactions. It can also ask for clarification when a request is unclear, seek help when stuck, and request confirmation before taking actions with significant consequences.

Users can choose between receiving regular progress updates and letting the model run more quietly in the background.

Coding is one of the biggest areas of focus for Muse Spark 1.3. Meta says it trained the model on additional long-horizon coding tasks, improving its ability to handle software engineering workflows that involve multiple steps.

These tasks can include understanding an existing codebase, making changes, testing those changes, and fixing problems that emerge during the process.

Compared with Muse Spark 1.2, Meta says Muse Spark 1.3 uses around 20% fewer tool calls and approximately 25% fewer tokens for comparable tasks. The company says the improvement could make AI coding agents more practical for projects requiring repeated interactions with development tools.

Meta says Muse Spark 1.3 is highly competitive with leading AI models across several benchmarks for coding, knowledge work, professional tool use, and computer use. It has also highlighted the model’s performance on long-horizon agentic coding tasks.

However, benchmark results can vary depending on model configuration and prompts. The reported results therefore indicate where Muse Spark 1.3 stands rather than establishing a definitive overall ranking.

Muse Spark 1.3 is available through Muse Code and the Meta Model API. Developers can use the model for coding workflows, AI-powered applications, and AI agent systems.

Meta says it has also improved the model’s resistance to adversarial inputs and prompt injection attacks. Its max reasoning mode will arrive after additional safety testing.
