The upcoming iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature an internal battery just 2.49mm thick. It is roughly half the thickness of iPhone 17 Pro’s battery, according to new leaks from Korea.

Images posted by the Naver blog account yeux1122 allegedly show the ultra-thin Air battery side by side with the Pro’s. The source previously claimed that the Air model’s capacity will be around 2,800mAh, while a Chinese leaker has suggested it will be under 3,000mAh.

iPhone 17 Air Specs: Size and Weight Comparison

The 6.6-inch iPhone 17 Air is said to weigh about 145 grams, similar to iPhone SE 2 and iPhone 13 mini. It may also feature an ultra-slim 5.5mm chassis, making it Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet. According to a Bloomberg report, TDK CEO Noboru Saito has indicated the device will use a ‘high-density’ battery. The model could also be the first Apple phone with silicon-anode battery technology.

iPhone 17 Air Battery: Mixed Reports

Battery performance expectations for the model are mixed. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman commented on battery life, saying that it would be ‘on par with current iPhones’ due to hardware and software optimizations.

On the other hand,  The Information's Wayne Ma stated that the phone will have ‘worse’ battery life when compared to earlier versions. The device may also benefit from Apple’s power-efficient C1 modem and the removal of the Ultra Wide camera, potentially freeing space for a larger battery.

Looking Ahead

iPhone 17 Air is expected to debut in mid-September 2025, replacing the ‘Plus’ model in Apple’s smartphone lineup. The model is expected to redefine smartphone design with an innovative, ultra-thin battery, marking a significant advancement in miniaturized power solutions. The anticipated use of a silicone anode in batteries will also be groundbreaking, giving Apple its once-revered edge in innovation again.
