Buying a new Samsung Galaxy phone does not have to mean rebuilding your digital life from scratch. Samsung’s Smart Switch tool can move much of the important content from an old Android phone or iPhone to a new Galaxy device, including contacts, photos, videos, messages, calendars, notes, and selected settings.
The bigger advantage is that users can choose how they want to make the switch. Smart Switch supports wireless transfers, USB cable connections, and, in some cases, external storage. Samsung has also expanded the transfer experience to cover more data when moving from iPhone to Galaxy.
For users moving a large amount of data, a wired connection is generally the better option because Samsung says it supports the widest range of transferable data. To begin, open Smart Switch on both phones, connect them with a compatible cable, and select the old phone as the sending device and the new Galaxy as the receiving device. Users can then choose to transfer everything or select specific categories.
Wireless transfer is more convenient when users want to keep both phones connected to chargers during the process. The phones need to be placed close together, after which Smart Switch can scan the old device and begin moving the selected content.
Moving from an iPhone to a Galaxy does not necessarily require starting over. Smart Switch can transfer supported content directly and can also retrieve selected information through iCloud. Samsung says the available data depends on the transfer method and devices involved.
Before wiping or selling the old phone, users should check the new Galaxy for photos, contacts, messages, important files, and account access. This final verification can prevent missing data from becoming a problem after the old device is gone.
