Hideo Kojima’s most unforgettable creation is undoubtedly the Metal Gear series. However, since this visionary designer has established Kojima Productions, Death Stranding has become its defining title. After the immeasurable success of Death Stranding, gamers have been expecting its sequel, and finally, Kojima and Sony announced the launch date of Death Stranding 2 at the SXSW conference.
This game will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025, and the sequel to the 2019 hit Death Stranding will continue the saga of Sam Bridges in a world fraught with otherworldly challenges.
The gaming world has prepared loads of surprises for gamers. This year’s lineup is full of variety, and it's truly exciting with games like GTA 6. Now, Death Stranding 2 has joined the list. This highly anticipated sequel will be available in two different editions. First is the Standard Edition ($69.99), which includes the base game. The next one is the Digital Deluxe Edition, currently priced at $79.99, which offers the base game with some additional accessories. Even this edition provides a 48-hour early access starting on June 24.
Apart from these two, Sony is bringing a Collector’s edition for the hardcore fans, which is available at $229.99. This package includes all Digital Deluxe content, a 15-inch Magellan Man statue, a 3-inch Dollman figurine, art cards, and a personal letter from Hideo Kojima. Pre-orders will begin on March 17, and early access for Digital Deluxe and Collector's Editions will be available.
The announcement of Death Stranding 2 was made with a 10-minute trailer that offers a tantalizing glimpse into the game's narrative and mechanics. The stunning trailer shows that the upcoming game is set 11 months after the formation of the United Cities of America, and the main narrative delves into a world where automated deliveries are the norm and new factions emerge to challenge the protagonist, Sam Bridges.
The most notable feature in the trailer was the presence of a character with a bandana who resembles Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series. Aside from that, the game’s development has been influenced by Kojima’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, so themes like isolation and connection will be prevalent in the game.
Apart from the game launch, Kojima Productions has announced "The Strands of Harmony World Tour." This is basically a concert series to celebrate the music of Death Stranding. Notably, this tour is also scheduled for November 8, 2025, at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and will feature a full orchestra performing compositions from the series.
Hideo Kojima and his team have done an impressive job, as the Death Stranding 2 trailer has revealed. Therefore, as the release date approaches, players have been getting more excited about getting their hands on the game, but the problem still remains: This game will be continuously compared to its predecessor; therefore, this must be more compelling to become a worthy successor to Death Stranding.
