Halo Infinite's May 2025 update, "Operation: Last Stand," brings a massive content boost, including a new Operation Pass, power weapon, and revamped Firefight mode. The update also adds enhanced weapon customization and sandbox upgrades, further enriching the game. This significant release showcases the game's ongoing development and commitment to improvement.

Operation: Last Stand Brings New Rewards, Devastating Mutilator Weapon

Operation: Last Stand is a time-limited event through June 10th featuring a 50-tier reward track in free and premium forms. Players can customize their experience with Spartan-inspired armor sets and other cosmetics. The premium pass rewards bonus XP, extra challenge slots, instant unlocks, and exclusive content like the "Commander Agryna" Armor Kit.

One of the largest notes of this patch is bringing in a new power weapon: the Mutilator. This killing tool brings the close-range power of the Gravity Hammer and the spread and damage of a shotgun with two barrels. It introduces a fresh hybrid playstyle with the capability of dealing monstrous melee slams and blast short-range apart.

To highlight this new weapon, a special multiplayer playlist entitled "Mutilator Madness" has been included that contains a Juggernaut-type mode where the Mutilator is used by one player while the others attempt to kill them to take it for themselves.

Cooperative Firefight Evolved: Battle of the Academy Arrives

For those who like cooperative play, the update adds Firefight: Battle of the Academy. The new version of Firefight is a "linear" experience, depositing players in the Avery J. Johnson Academy to battle against waves of Banished soldiers led by Iratus. The mode features tasks like holding back allies, breaking up enemy positions, and halting the Banished from securing crucial intel, giving a more linear and narrative-driven PvE challenge.

The Weapon Bench was also greatly improved, where users can now customize five additional weapons: MA5K Avenger, Needler, Heatwave, Shock Rifle, and the new Mutilator. This includes applying weapon coatings, emblems, charms, and death effects, adding more customization choices for players' favorite loadouts.

Gameplay Evolved: Ricochet Snipers, Smarter AI, and Forge Flexibility

The update introduces a significant adjustment to sniper rifles in gameplay. The S7 Sniper Rifle and Flexfire Sniper feature ricocheting bullets, adding a new layer of tactical strategy to gameplay. This capability could lead to some impressive "bank shots" and memorable moments in the game.

Lastly, AI-based enemies in Firefight and Forge-created modes now have access to more turret variations, making the PvE encounter more challenging and diverse.

Forge developers will further find new functionality to enhance their map-making capabilities with the addition of several new scripting nodes for object and player spawn order. Furthermore, the "Set Object Team" nodes have been enhanced to be used with more generic objective items, which gives more flexibility in creating custom game modes.

Apart from the significant additions, the update contains numerous bug fixes and balance changes. In particular, the Banshee's Bomb skill has been adjusted with a longer cooldown and slower projectile speed, taking into account player complaints about its usefulness. Banshee collision damage has also been marginally boosted.

Looking Ahead

"Operation: Last Stand" offers a strong upgrade with a fresh Operation Pass, the Mutilator gun, developed Firefight, increased personalization, and game changes, considerably enhancing the Halo Infinite game. In total, the May 2025 update for Halo Infinite is a big one, bringing a trove of new content and changes to many different areas of the game.

From the brutal Mutilator and the tactical complexity of ricocheting snipers to the fun Firefight: Battle of the Academy and the added customization, "Operation: Last Stand" provides strong incentives for both returning Spartans and newcomers alike to dive into the ever-changing world of Halo Infinite.
