Elon Musk’s xAI has officially launched Grokipedia, which is an AI-powered alternative to Wikipedia, designed to provide factual, bias-free, and conversational information. The Tesla boss announced that Wikipedia's AI rival Grokipedia is now live.
Elon Musk first revealed the initiative in late September on his social media platform, X, describing it as “a massive improvement over Wikipedia” and “a necessary step towards the xAI objective of understanding the Universe.”
The Tesla CEO stated in an X post that Grokipedia “Version 1.0 will be 10X better”, and claimed, “even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.”
This venture represents Musk’s effort to leverage Grok, the ChatGPT-like artificial intelligence system developed by his company xAI, to provide a more unbiased, ideologically alternative counterpart to established mainstream digital platforms.
Interested users can access the platform by simply searching for Grokipedia on Google or clicking on this link: Grokipedia.com
The platform’s minimalist homepage featured the title “Grokipedia v0.1” alongside a simple search bar inviting users to submit queries.
However, the AI-generated online encyclopedia ceased functioning shortly after its launch. The platform remained publicly accessible for only around an hour before restricting access to visitors.
Grokipedia closely resembled Wikipedia’s visual and structural layout. It features entries on subjects such as ChatGPT, Diane Keaton, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, the content base appeared significantly smaller, with its editorial mechanisms more opaque. Additionally, its tone feels more right-aligned in the framing of certain topics.
At the time of launch, the website appears to contain more than 885,000 articles. Meanwhile, the English variant of Wikipedia has more than 8 million entries to date.
According to The Washington Post report, Grokipedia has been promoting “far-right talking points”. Both publications highlighted examples such as the platform’s definitions of gender and its treatment of topics relating to transgender people, among others.
In one instance, Grokipedia’s entry on gender opened with the statement: “Gender refers to the binary classification of humans as male or female based on biological sex...”. This framing stands in marked contrast to Wikipedia’s definition: “Gender is the range of social, psychological, cultural, and behavioural aspects of being a man (or boy), woman (or girl), or third gender.”
The difference underscores the platform’s ideological differences and their broader sociocultural interpretation adopted by conventional reference sources.
Grokipedia presented a different portrayal of the billionaire compared to his corresponding Wikipedia page.
The article mentioned, Elon Musk “emphasizes AI safety through truth-oriented development rather than heavy regulation,” and that certain product launches “reflect xAI’s rapid iteration, with Musk highlighting Grok’s design for maximal truth-seeking and reduced censorship.” These claims were attributed directly to xAI’s official website.
Similar to Wikipedia’s “Accolades” section, Grokipedia included a segment titled “Recognition and Long-Term Vision.” This portion elaborated on Musk’s philosophical outlook: “His long-term vision prioritizes safeguarding human consciousness against existential threats, emphasizing the establishment of a self-sustaining multi-planetary civilization as a hedge against planetary-scale catastrophes on Earth.”

This is Musk’s latest venture to leverage Grok, the AI system developed by his company xAI, to offer right-leaning alternatives to mainstream tech tools. Some Elon Musk admirers greeted its debut, while several critics highlighted propaganda and misinformation in several articles.
It remains to be seen how this repository of knowledge will advance as Wikipedia undergoes new updates to solidify its position on the internet.
