The launch details for Google’s highly anticipated Pixel 9a have surfaced online, including its release date, pricing, and key specifications. According to recent leaks, the Pixel 9a will be available for pre-orders starting March 19, with sales beginning a week later on March 26. This schedule marks an early launch for the A-series, as previous models like the Pixel 7a and 8a debuted in May of their respective years.
Leaks indicate that the Pixel 9a will start at $499 (roughly ₹43,200) in the United States for the 128GB storage variant, while the 256GB version will cost $599 (around ₹51,900). Customers opting for Verizon’s mmWave-compatible model will need to pay an additional $50. These prices are in line with the Pixel 8a’s launch price in the US. However, Indian pricing is expected to differ.
For context, the Pixel 8a launched in India with prices set at ₹52,999 and ₹59,999 for the 128GB and 256GB storage options, respectively. Similar pricing can be anticipated for the Pixel 9a.
The Pixel 9a is expected to sport a design overhaul by getting rid of the trademark camera bar and bringing in a flat back panel instead. This could be to, possibly, make room for a considerably larger battery with a capacity of 5,100mAh—making it the biggest yet on a Pixel mobile. However, the phone will be slim with a display measuring 6.28 inches diagonally. It will have a peak brightness of 2,700 nits, HDR brightness of 1,800 nits, and 120Hz refresh rate enabled, with up to 240-Hz sampling frequency on touch.
The Pixel 9a is allegedly powered under the hood by Google’s Tensor G4 chipset accompanied by 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM. 128GB and 256GB are the storage options and it uses UFS 3.1 technology. Indian users in particular will get the advantage of a phone that runs Android 15 out of the box and will be supported by seven years of software and security updates.
The Pixel 9a will have a dual camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide. The 13-megapixel sensor will also be used in the front-facing camera. Other signature camera features of Google such as Night Sight, Astrophotography, and Super Res Zoom, will be available.
Despite being extremely impressive, rumours point to charging at limited speeds of 23W wired and 7.5W wireless, The phone is said to be offered in four colours including Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony.
