Google announced five new features as part of its September Android Drop. The update focuses on artificial intelligence, accessibility, convenience, and personalisation.
The most notable addition is Guided Vision, which brings Gemini-powered visual assistance to phones running Android 9 or newer. Other features include Gemini integration with Find Hub, Motion Assist, Google Keep inside Messages and custom chat themes.
Google is expanding Gemini's role beyond traditional AI assistance. Users will soon be able to ask Gemini to remember where they placed important items such as passports, keys, or other belongings.
The information will be stored in the Find Hub application. Now you can upload a picture as well to add some context. After that, you can use the Gemini application to find the item’s location or go to the new 'remembered items' section of the Find Hub app. This feature will be available on Android 16 or on Gemini and Find Hub-compatible devices.
Google is also introducing Motion Assist for Android 17 devices. The feature places moving bubbles over the screen while a user is travelling in a car or other vehicle.
The overlay is designed to reduce the mismatch between what the eyes see and what the body feels during movement. Users can enable it automatically or add it to Quick Settings. Google also allows users to customise the bubbles' appearance.
Guided Vision is one of the key updates. It uses Gemini Live and the phone's camera to describe objects and surroundings through voice. Google is also giving users more control over the appearance of individual conversations.
The feature can help users read small text, identify household objects or understand a menu in low light. Gemini can also provide voice instructions when the camera needs to be repositioned. The changes can be applied separately to different chats, giving more options to personalise your messaging experience.
