The project was announced on Friday, October 23, 2026, with a promotional flyer handed out at a press preview in Tokyo. For now, the movie is being referred to as The Ghost in the Shell. Little is known about the plot, release date, or the individuals behind the creative process. This announcement follows shortly after the most recent TV version started in July 2026.
Science SARU, known for its distinctive animation style, will produce the upcoming project. The studio was also behind the 2026 TV anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL. The studio has developed an international fan base based on titles such as DAN DA DAN, Inu-Oh, and The Colors Within. Their animated films usually incorporate stunning visual effects along with unusual narratives.
The studio’s return suggests continuity in the franchise’s recent creative direction, although the producers have not confirmed whether the new project will share characters, settings, or storylines with the 2026 series.
