Garmin launched the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro outdoor smartwatches on August 25. The Fenix 9 Pro Solar claims up to 291 days of battery life in low-power mode. The flagship watches target athletes and adventure users seeking longer endurance and remote connectivity.
Garmin achieves the extreme battery figure through solar charging under specific outdoor conditions. Pre-orders will open on August 28 through Garmin’s online store.
The 291-day battery life applies specifically to the 51mm Fenix 9 Pro Solar model. Garmin’s test assumes three hours outdoors daily under 50,000 lux conditions. Standard smartwatch use delivers up to 30 days without solar charging. Solar charging can extend that figure to 57 days.
The extreme endurance comes with a low power mode that limits several smartwatch functions. GPS tracking, LTE communication, music, and sensors can reduce battery life significantly. Garmin therefore positions the solar model for long expeditions and remote outdoor activities.
The Fenix 9 Pro also brings a full titanium case and AMOLED display options. Solar versions come in 47mm and 51mm sizes. The largest AMOLED model reaches up to 31 days in smartwatch mode.
Connectivity receives a major upgrade through built-in inReach satellite and LTE features. These capabilities support messaging, voice communication, LiveTrack, and SOS services. An active inReach subscription remains necessary for connected satellite services.
Garmin also adds Garmin Epic, enhanced stamina metrics, navigation improvements, and upgraded health tracking. The watches retain multi-band GPS, Garmin Pay, sports tracking, and a 3,000-nit display.
The Fenix 9 starts at USD 999.99, while the Fenix 9 Pro starts at USD 1,099.99. Garmin will begin orders on August 28, with pricing varying by size and configuration.
