Fujifilm is giving instant photography a new twist with the Instax Square 2, a camera that lets users change the colour tone of their pictures before taking them. Instead of relying on digital editing, the new model uses physical filters to give photographs a warmer or cooler look.
Announced on Tuesday, (October 14, 2026) the camera costs USD 119.95 in the US and is expected to arrive in late October. Fujifilm is also introducing a new Soft Haze instant film, aimed at photographers who prefer softer colours and a more atmospheric finish.
The biggest change is the new Mood Filter switch. Users can select a warm setting for subtle golden tones, choose cool for a blue-tinted look, or turn the effect off to retain the standard Instax appearance.
Unlike filters on a smartphone, these effects are created optically, with a physical filter placed in front of the lens. That means the choice has to be made before pressing the shutter. There is no digital preview or editing option to fix the result afterwards.
For people who enjoy the unpredictability of film photography, that may be part of the appeal. The camera keeps the process simple while offering a little more creative control.
The Square 2 uses Fujifilm's square-format Instax film and has a rounded body with a textured grip. It includes an optical viewfinder, a built-in selfie mirror and automatic exposure and flash adjustment.
Turning the lens ring switches between three shooting modes: Close-up, Standard and Landscape. The controls are designed to make the camera straightforward to use without navigating menus.
Buyers can choose from three colours: Slate Blue, Misty White and Brick Red. The camera is expected to be available from late October, with regional pricing and availability varying by market.
Alongside the camera, Fujifilm is launching Instax Square Soft Haze film. Its specially developed emulsion produces less saturated colours and contrast, with glowing highlights and warm, diffused shadows.
A pack containing 10 exposures costs USD 18.99 in the US. The film offers another way to change the appearance of prints without editing them digitally.

The Instax Square 2 is designed for those who like to take photos on actual film and prefer easy-to-use creative settings over mobile-phone capabilities. The problem is that every photo requires a piece of film, which makes trying out new styles expensive. To lovers of instant cameras, what matters is making these decisions prior to the image developing right in front of their eyes.
