Transsion brand Infinix is gearing up to launch the midrange Note 50 series in Indonesia on March 3, 2025. Infinix AI is a key feature in the teaser video of the confirmation from the company of the official launch date.
However, there isn’t any superior detail available yet, but considering the seriousness of Infinix as far as worldwide development is concerned, the series might achieve the market in India soon. According to a report from GSMArena, the Folax voice assistant could be getting an upgrade, albeit with a notable one as well.
With the integration of advanced AI technology, the Note 50 series may come in with a differentiating factor in the crowded midrange smartphone segment. However, Infinix has scheduled a statement to clarify these all on February 26, 2025. Like the buildup to the Mobile World Congress, where brands usually show off innovations, this also fits the timing. Meanwhile, tech enthusiasts are waiting for the confirmation of the rumored features.
GSMArena reported that Infinix will use the DeepSeek R1, a Chinese-developed AI chatbot, and integrate it into its Folax voice assistant. The open-source reasoning model DeepSeek R1 aspires to compete against systems like Open AI GPT4 or Google Gemini. Moreover, It differs from others in using human-like reasoning and is good at problems like coding and multi-step planning. This could help improve Folax’s speed and accuracy for searches and voice commands.
Currently, Folax relies on Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI APIs, utilizing the GPT-3.5 model. Users have noted its struggles with complex queries, despite its basic functionality. By adopting DeepSeek R1, Infinix seeks to enhance the assistant’s performance, potentially making it a standout feature in the Note 50 series. The company’s testing reportedly shows promising results including better contextual understanding and faster responses.
The open-source approach taken by DeepSeek R1 allows Infinix to adopt a cost-effective strategy that helps the brand cater to its main customer segment, budget consumers. Although Google and Samsung use proprietary AI, or Apple, which has integrated ChatGPT into Siri, Infinix could be the first to integrate DeepSeek R1 in smartphones. This choice avoids hefty licensing fees while delivering advanced capabilities, giving the brand an edge in the AI-driven market.
The model’s “mixture of experts” approach enhances efficiency by targeting specific knowledge areas for each query. However, its Chinese origin raises concerns. Critics reported content censorship issues and pro-government bias, which led South Korea to ban the device. The upcoming announcement from Infinix will provide details about these unresolved issues. The Note 50 series is set to reshape AI accessibility standards across budget-friendly smartphone devices during its approaching launch.
