Bitcoin traded near $79,100 on August 26 as most major altcoins moved lower, while weekly gains remained positive across the market. Bitcoin fell 2% over 24 hours but stayed 23% higher for the week.

CoinMarketCap data showed 15 of the 16 non-stable assets among the top 18 cryptocurrencies by market value declined during the session. Their median 24-hour move was about- 3.8%. Ether traded at $2,465 after a 1.7% daily decline. Even so, it remained 29% higher over seven days, showing that the latest pullback had not erased the week’s advance.

Bitcoin and Ether Keep Most Weekly Gains

Bitcoin and Ether recorded the smallest givebacks relative to their weekly gains. Bitcoin’s daily decline equaled 8.6% of its seven-day rise, while Ether’s represented 5.8%. XRP also retained most of its weekly advance despite falling 5.2% during the day. By contrast, Stellar’s daily loss equaled 46% of its seven-day gain.

Cardano’s pullback represented 36.4% of its weekly increase, while Dogecoin’s reached 26.9%. Another session with similar losses would reduce their remaining weekly gains further.

Zcash posted one of the largest daily declines in the group. Still, its 57% weekly surge left a larger cushion, with the daily loss equal to 12.8% of that rise.

HYPE Rises as Bitcoin Dominance Tops 60%

HYPE moved against the broader market and gained 2.4% to reach $82. The token extended its seven-day increase to 41% while almost every other major crypto asset declined. Meanwhile, Bitcoin dominance reached 60.27% at 06:14 UTC on August 26. That marked its strongest area since early June and followed a gain of about 1.4 percentage points since mid-August.

The index also reclaimed the 60% level as altcoins pulled back. That showed Bitcoin gaining a larger share of total crypto market capitalization during the cooling period.

What will determine whether the weekly rally remains broad enough to continue? The next rebound would need participation across Ether, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin and other recent leaders.

Market Data Point to Pullback, Not Its Cause

Price moves alone do not identify why the market declined. Spot volume, open interest, and funding rates would be needed before labeling the move as profit-taking, deleveraging, or forced liquidation. Cooling open interest and calmer funding would support a reduction in leveraged exposure. Persistent spot selling and repeated failures to recover would instead place greater pressure on the remaining weekly gains.

Several lower-volatility assets also declined after weaker weekly performances. UNUS SED LEO fell 0.5% after a 0.8% weekly gain, while Monero dropped 1.2% after rising 7.8%.

TRON lost 1.6% after advancing 1.8% for the week. Their smaller daily losses came alongside much weaker seven-day momentum than the market’s strongest recent performers.

Conclusion

Bitcoin held most of its weekly advance as altcoins recorded deeper daily losses. Bitcoin dominance moved above 60%, while HYPE gained against the broader decline. Traders now have three key signals to watch: rebound breadth, spot activity, and changes in open interest and funding.
