AstraZeneca has partnered with Oracle to use AI and real-world health data in clinical trials. The deal was announced on October 20, 2026. It aims to find eligible patients faster, cut research delays, and track drug safety more closely.

The two firms plan to work across several areas of medicine. These are cancer, heart disease, kidney and metabolic illness, lung disease, immune disorders, and rare diseases. The tools could help doctors spot trial candidates early. They could also bring research findings into daily patient care.

First Project Focuses on High Blood Pressure

The first project will focus on high blood pressure in Abu Dhabi. The companies will work with M42, a health firm based in the UAE.

The goal is to help doctors find patients whose blood pressure is still not under control. It will also help improve their treatment as per medical guidelines. Suitable patients may then be invited to join clinical trials.

Faster Patient Identification Could Reduce Trial Delays

Finding enough eligible patients is one of the hardest parts of drug research. It takes time, delays trials, and pushes up costs. AI can scan large sets of health records and pick out the right people much faster.

The partnership will also look at spotting diseases early and tracking drug safety. By linking research with routine care, the firms hope to gather proof that can guide future studies and treatment choices.

The move reflects a wider trend. Drug companies want tools that speed up research and get medicines to patients sooner. AstraZeneca is also growing its range of medicines. It aims to earn more than USD 80 billion a year by 2030.

Can AI Deliver Faster and Better Clinical Trials?

For now, the deal is only at an early stage. The companies have not shared any financial details. There is also no promise that every planned use will go ahead.

Its success will depend on a few clear results. Can it bring in patients faster? Can it make research smoother? Can it lead to better health for patients? The answers will decide whether this partnership delivers real change.
