Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across teams tied to Siri, artificial intelligence, and the Vision Pro headset, as the company redirects resources toward its AI overhaul and next-generation devices.

Vision Pro gaming takes the hit

Roughly 100 positions are being eliminated from the Vision Pro organization. Apple is largely shutting down the team dedicated to gaming on the headset and shrinking the unit that produces its immersive video content. Employees were told the changes reflect how customers actually use the device, with resources shifting toward other future products.

Apple has reportedly been steering effort away from Vision Pro toward AI-powered smart glasses expected around 2027, and the Vision Pro's former hardware lead recently departed for OpenAI.

Siri's overhaul demands new skills

The remaining 100 roles cut span Siri and its surrounding software teams, along with Intelligent Systems Experience, the group behind AI features across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple is rebuilding Siri on a new technical architecture ahead of its AI-powered relaunch, a shift that requires different engineering expertise than the current team offers. Some roles are being eliminated even as new ones open around the rebuilt assistant, expected to reach public beta before the end of 2026.

Company mid-transition

Apple confirmed the cuts, saying it is realigning teams "to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users," while noting new roles will also be created. The restructuring lands as Apple works to close the gap with AI rivals following widely reported delays to its Apple Intelligence features and as a broader industry memory shortage pushes up the cost of building its hardware lineup.
