Apple has bought some assets of Samplab, a Swiss startup that built AI tools for editing audio. It also hired some of the company's staff. The deal closed in June 2026, but it became public on October 19 through a notice on the European Commission's list of acquisitions.

Apple's music apps, Logic Pro and GarageBand, could gain from the move. The company has not said how it plans to use the technology or if it will use it at all. The price and the exact assets were not shared.

How Samplab’s Technology Simplifies Audio Editing

Samplab made it easier to edit recorded music. Its tools could turn audio into MIDI, find chords, and split a song into parts such as vocals and drums.

The app could also change single notes inside a recording where many notes play at once. This means a musician could fix a melody or a chord without redoing the whole track. The original sound stayed the same.

Logic Pro already has Stem Splitter, which separates parts of a recording, and Chord ID, which finds chords. Samplab's note-editing skill could add to these tools.

Why Apple had to Report the Samplab Acquisition

The tech giant bought the assets through a subsidiary. The European Commission notice also says Apple will employ some Samplab staff. The deal was reported because of the EU's Digital Markets Act. Apple is a gatekeeper under this law, so it must report some deals involving digital services.

Samplab has already closed its service. The app shut down on September 17, 2026. Its website now sends visitors to Apple's site.

Could Samplab’s AI Tools Come to Logic Pro and GarageBand?

Apple has not said when, or if, Samplab's tools will show up in its products. Still, the purchase hints that Apple wants to add more AI help for people who make music. Users of Logic Pro and GarageBand may see new editing features in future updates, but for now that is only a guess.
