Anthropic has released a new AI model built for a different kind of task. Instead of just answering questions, Claude Fable 5.1 is made to handle big projects that run for hours, use many tools, and need less human help along the way.
The company launched Fable 5.1 together with Claude Mythos 5.1. Both models share the same core abilities. Mythos comes with extra safety checks and is offered only to select organizations working in fields like cybersecurity and life sciences.
Fable 5.1 targets heavy coding and research work. Anthropic says it can move through large codebases, review code, run multi-step research, and create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. If a task fails partway through, the model can recover and keep going instead of stopping.
Cost is a big part of the pitch too. Anthropic says Fable 5.1 cuts typical token costs by about 25% compared to the earlier Fable 5 model. For heavy, tool-based tasks, savings can reach 45%. Lower costs for reading cached data are a key reason behind this drop.
Mythos 5.1 is being rolled out through limited programs for cybersecurity and life science groups. This shows how Anthropic sees value and risk in AI that can take on serious research work.
The real story here is not about a smarter chatbot. It is a shift toward AI that can plan, run, and check a full project on its own. If this keeps up, companies may stop using one-off prompts. Instead, they may hand full workflows to AI agents from start to finish.
AI models are taking on longer tasks with less human input. This will keep changing how much humans oversee and how much AI runs on its own. How companies handle that shift may decide what enterprise AI looks like next.
