Amazon is reportedly in talks to buy AI startup Decart for around USD 7 billion. The deal could help Amazon Web Services (AWS) run AI models more efficiently on its own chips. Decart is mostly renowned for its NVIDIA-backed Lucy model that can edit videos in real time.
Additionally, the startup has built Oasis, a tool that creates virtual worlds for testing robots and self-driving systems. According to the reports, the acquisition talks are still underway and no deal has yet been finalized. Both parties are silent about the deal.
In May 2026, the AI startup was valued at nearly USD 4 billion after raising USD 300 million from investors, including Radical Ventures and NVIDIA. Before Amazon, another AI giant, Anthropic, was interested in acquiring the startup, but it dropped the plan in September.
The reported deal was worth around USD 6 billion. Anthropic had considered the startup but later decided not to go ahead. The reason for its decision has not been made public. Amazon's reported bid comes as cloud firms look for ways to run AI models faster and lower the cost of using powerful chips.
Decart develops software that helps AI models run on different types of chips. Amazon is also building its own Trainium chips to compete with NVIDIA. Decart's tools could make these chips more useful to developers. They may also help AWS attract businesses that need to train or run AI models at a large scale.

If the deal goes right, Decar may help Amazon AWS to offer more to the customer. Developers may also spend less time changing their models to work with different chips. Thus, it would probably offer businesses more choice when they use cloud service.
However, these benefits are not certain. They will depend on how well Decart's tools work with Amazon's chips and other systems. The reported USD 7 billion price also makes the deal a major investment for Amazon.
