Dutch payments company Adyen is expanding its business in India and hiring more staff. The company believes India's digital payments and cross-border trade market has strong long-term potential.

Adyen's Asia-Pacific president, Gary Yang, said the firm will keep growing its team in India. He did not share exact numbers for future hiring or revenue. But the trend so far is clear. Adyen's staff count in India has grown tenfold since 2023. The company had about 120 employees in the country in the first half of 2026.

A Different Path in a Tough Market

India's payments market is known for strict rules. Other firms, including some major players, have had difficulties. Stripe exited India in 2024, resulting from regulatory challenges. In 2021, PayPal exited domestic payments and now focuses only on cross-border payments.

Adyen has opted for a different path. In 2024, it was given the license to operate as a payment aggregator in India for domestic and cross-border payments. The company also set up a tech hub in Bengaluru. This hub supports its operations and product work in the country.

Adyen's India numbers back its confidence. Pre-tax income from its India business more than doubled in 2025. It rose to EUR 3.18 million, up from EUR 1.45 million in 2024. Globally, Adyen posted a net income of EUR 1.06 billion in 2025.

Building for What Comes Next

Adyen works with global firms like Adobe on their India payment plans. It also helps Indian companies, such as travel platform Oyo, expand abroad. The company has adjusted its systems to fit India's rules. This includes data storage laws, recurring payment mandates, and support for UPI, the country's popular payment system.

Adyen is also looking ahead. It is studying 'agentic commerce,' where AI tools could soon search for products and make payments for people.

Adyen's India strategy centers on expanding its local operations and supporting payment services for Indian and global businesses.
