The name 'AbuErdan' is the name of the water egret, a sacred bird that ancient Egyptians considered as a symbol of creation, growth, and prosperity. It is also known to modern Egyptians as the 'friend of the farmer'. The company's vision is to be the 'electronic friend of the farmer'. AbuErdan was founded by a team of data scientists and data analysts with a strong background in developing business intelligence solutions for international organizations such as the World Bank, governments, and companies in sectors of energy, telecommunication companies, aerospace, and defense. To ensure a comprehensive coverage of poultry best practices, the solution has been developed in cooperation with poultry experts from different parts of the world such as Holland, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, South Africa, and Egypt.
The objective of AbuErdan is to make an impact in the poultry industry by empowering poultry companies to increase their profitability and production and reduce waste. AbuErdan helps poultry companies to increase efficiency and identify loss prevention opportunities in the whole poultry value chain. AbuErdan modules cover the value chain starting right after the genetics until the retailers. It covers breeders, hatcheries, broilers, layers and slaughterhouses. Each module caters to different stakeholders. Upper management gets a helicopter view of the business, while production management uses the system to manage and optimize company operations efficiently. Operations engineers/farm managers use the system for day-to-day management functions. AbuErdan has other modules that span the whole value chain such as planning, insights, traceability, executive apps, and machine learning modules.
Neamat ElTazi is the Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of AbuErdan. She cooperates with the CEO in multiple ways, including setting objectives that match the company strategy and ensuring that it has effective operational and financial procedures in place. Neamat comes from a technology background. She holds a Ph.D. in data management and data analytics jointly from the University of Michigan and Cairo University. Neamat has more than eighteen years of experience in product development and management in multiple industries across different countries. She is also an associate professor at Cairo University, where she strives to reduce the gap between academia and industry worlds. Neamat is responsible for assessing and implementing improved processes and new technologies and collaborating with management regarding the implementation of these improvements at AbuErdan.
Neamat has more than eighteen years of experience in developing data analytics and business intelligence solutions for international organizations and governments. This experience shaped her journey as a successful woman leader who can handle multiple projects across different countries.
One of the main challenges AbuErdan faced at the beginning was diving into a new industry (poultry) and starting as an outsider with no poultry background. The company overcame this challenge by cooperating with poultry experts from multiple countries (Holland, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and others), resulting in accumulating a breadth of knowledge. It also covers the industry's requirements over a wide range of countries that enriched AbuErdan's solution with a powerful set of features.
According to Neamat, a transformational leader enhances the morale, performance, and motivation of employees, inspires change driven by a vision, and creates a culture of trust inside the company. She says that a leader is not only powered by passion, enthusiasm, perseverance, and enjoyment of creating value, but will also engage in being a people's person. Neamat adds that one of the essential attributes of a leader is to be able to radiate such enthusiasm and passion to employees, partners, as well as customers.
Neamat presumes that AbuErdan innovations and products were directly inspired by the pains of the poultry producers resulting in solutions that are built "by the farmer for the farmer". Part of the value of using AbuErdan is the associated service of constant development and continuous addition of new features. She mentions that AbuErdan believes the customer care is not limited to solving customer problems. Instead, the company considers itself as a partner, proactively empowering customers towards increased success and efficiency. Neamat utters that the agility of the AbuErdan team is the foundation that the company uses to quickly react to the dynamic business environment of the customers and corresponding additional requirements. Neamat gives key guidelines on innovation to provide outstanding service:

Neamat says that a leader's role is to pull together the correct mix of relevant technologies and involve the required stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness of such digital transformation. She states that AbuErdan uses machine learning to identify inefficiencies that cannot be identified easily, resulting in maximizing breed potential and increasing production. Besides, AbuErdan uses cloud technology for easing rollout and adoption, increase pervasive digital transformation, and put technology in the hands of farmers that would have otherwise been too complicated to use. Neamat affirms that it is important to note how leveraging blockchain and artificial intelligence to provide food safety reduces contaminations and antibiotic use. This allows providing better and healthier chicken that can be traced through all its value chain operations. She renders that in addition, AbuErdan solutions use data analytics to provide food security. This is enabled by having more visibility and better integration to empower poultry farmers to increase the resilience of the value chain and be able to mitigate against possible supply chain disruptions.
Neamat expresses that AbuErdan is a robust solution that spans all modules of the poultry value chain. Even though the company's product is very mature and is being extensively used by companies in the market, AbuErdan team is still even more ambitious. She adds that the company has a roadmap that includes delivering even more value through extensive use of machine learning, predictive analytics, planning, and optimization techniques.
Neamat advises emerging women leaders to work on their strengths to build a career that satisfies them. Neamat concludes by saying that if a woman leader is happily working, she will be a more inspiring leader to others.
