DJ Turntable on MacBook? Apple’s New Patent

Apple's patent reveals a modular MacBook with a DJ turntable

Apple is known for its innovative and sleek products, such as the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. However, the Cupertino-based company constantly explores new ideas and possibilities for its future devices. One of these ideas is a modular MacBook that could come with a DJ turntable!

According to a report by Gizmodo, a newly approved patent from Apple reveals the company's concept of a reconfigurable computing device with modular attachments. The patent, filed in 2021, describes a base that would accept multiple screens, keyboards, and other accessories as attachments. The base would have a hinge, allowing it to swivel the top and bottom fitments.

The patent states, "The first and second retaining portions can be configured to retain electrical devices to the coupling mechanism removably." The diagrams in the patent show how users could attach a screen at the top and a keyboard at the bottom for a more traditional laptop setup. On the other hand, users could even attach three screens simultaneously.

The most surprising and fascinating attachment shown in the patent is a DJ turntable that could be used for music production or mixing. The patent suggests that the device could be used by "a music producer, a disc jockey, an audio engineer, or the like" to generate music in one configuration while also being modular to permit the user to remove the input device and removably attach a keyboard or second display.

Other possible attachments mentioned in the patent include a piano keyboard, a drawing tablet, and hardware with knobs, buttons, and dials. The patent also indicates that such attachments could be snapped in place on the modular base with the assistance of magnets.

The patent reveals Apple's vision of creating a versatile and customizable device that could suit different needs and preferences of users. By using a modular design, Apple could also reduce waste and extend the lifespan of its products, as users could replace or upgrade certain parts instead of buying a new device.

However, as with any patent, there is no guarantee that this concept will ever become a reality. Apple files hundreds of patents yearly, but only a few make it to the market. Moreover, Apple faces challenges and risks in developing such a device, such as ensuring compatibility, security, reliability, and usability of the various attachments.

Apple has not commented on this patent or its plans for future devices. However, this patent shows that Apple is fearless in experimenting with new product ideas and possibilities. Whether we will ever see a MacBook with a DJ turntable remains to be seen, but it is certainly an intriguing idea.
