Just Say it: Voice-Enabled Assistants are Now Soaring

Revising the Voice-Enabled Assistants

Speech recognition technology or voice-enabled assistants are counted in the club of advanced technologies. It often comes integrated into all smart devices. The best example of this technology is Alexa. Alexa has also saved an American woman from her husband's violence by calling up the cops. One can sense the importance and the advancement well from this.

Speech technology was first inspired by Thomas Edison's phonograph in 1871. On taking a closer look at the timeline of voice and speech recognition, we will witness its evolution over the years till the present century where 90% of the population prefers voice-enabled assistants, as revealed by the PwC survey. It is predicted the global speech and voice recognition market is estimated to touch $31.82 billion by 2025.

Being Vocal with Voice Recognition

Studies show that voice recognition technology is turning out to be a benediction for the specially-abled, which reminds us of the great Stephen Hawking who popularized the use of a speech-generating device designed by Intel. This technology is also praised by the geriatrics who often find typing challenging. PwC survey also shows that these segments had their introduction to technology with interactive assistants.

This can be, unhesitatingly, judged as a revolutionary technology that makes tech available for all, leaving no grounds for discrimination. Additionally, the speech and voice recognition technology is now highly welcomed in business organizations and e-commerce sites for crafting a seamless and effortless experience for customers because it makes communication more organic and provides a comfort zone to the encoder.

This stands to reason that the speech recognition technology will soon transform the IoT landscape as it has already demonstrated its potential in the sectors of healthcare, business, e-commerce, and even households.

The Challenges that Remain but can be Annexed

To quote Mark Zuckerberg, "Speech recognition systems have improved recently, but no system is good enough to understand speech yet. Speech recognition relies on both listening to what you say and predicting what you will say next, so structured speech is still much easier to understand than unstructured conversation."

The speech recognition technology that goes through debates and controversies is being a revolutionary technology that can aid businesses and other serious purposes. As rightfully pointed out by Zuckerberg, the technology often fails to capture unstructured speech. Natural Language Processing (NLP) encompasses speeches of every kind.  This is one of the reasons why people with speech impediments dither to use it. However, software companies like Intel, Microsoft, and Apple are striving to eliminate the problem.

Till then tech experts and scientists are dubious about it being truly revolutionary in the domain of technology.
